हर साल 16 दिसंबर को विजय दिवस मनाया जाता है | यह दिन 1971 में बांग्लादेश को आज़ादी दिलाने वाली जंग के लिए मनाया जाता है | यह जंग 16 दिसंबर को खत्म हुई थी जिसमे भारत को विजय प्राप्त हुई थी, इसीलिए इस दिन को विजय दिवस के तौर पर मनाया जाता है |
इस जंग में पाकिस्तानी फौज गैर-मुस्लिम लोगों को निशाना बना रही थी जिसके चलते भारत इस जंग में कूद पड़ा और पाकिस्तानी फौज को करारी हार दी | यह जंग 13 दिन तक चली थी |
इस लड़ाई में नौ हज़ार पाकिस्तानी सैनिक मारे गए और 92 हज़ार पाकिस्तानी सेनिको ने सर्रेंडर कर दिया था |
