ker puja 2020: केर पूजा मुख्य रूप से भारत के पूर्वोत्तर भाग के एक राज्य त्रिपुरा में मनाया जाने वाला त्योहार है। यह खारची पूजा के कुछ हफ्तों बाद आयोजित किया जाता है, और वास्तु देवता की पूजा करने के लिए आयोजित आदिवासी त्योहार है। लोगों का मानना है कि पूर्व के शासक इस पूजा को सामान्य कल्याण और राज्य के लोगों की भलाई के लिए करते थे।


A public holiday is also observed on this day. Banks and all the government offices are closed on this day. Kera Puja Festival falls after the fortnight of Kharchi Puja. In 2020, the festival is going to be celebrated on Sunday, July 7.

During this Ker Puja, the people of the area of Tripura are not allowed to enter Agartala. the capital of Tripura as the Agartala’s entrance is closed. If anyone enters the limit of error, he is not allowed to go back from the place. This is done, so the area is protected. Also, there is a custom that people should not light fires, dance, sing, or wear shoes. If anyone by any chance break these rules, he/she is fined and the Puja starts again.

In order to prevent any mishaps in the protected area, expecting mother, elderly, sick and weak people are moved to the nearby villages.  A loud sound of bang can be heard on the day of the Puja indicating that the festivities of the ceremony had begun. During this whole time, people are expected to remain calm and prohibited from shouting or crying.

Ker is the deity, which can be considered as a devastation deity. At the start of the Puja, the preparations involved in the placing of the bamboo in a certain way that it produces sounds. The Chantias, the high priest, is the one who treated like a king on this occasion. This puja is high of great importance among the people due to their association with different aspects and beliefs.

The Ker Puja starts from 8 am to 10 am in the morning. People can not speak or laugh when the Puja starts. This Puja is made to protect the people’s interests in any misfortune, illness, and poverty. The other reason is to save people from any external violence. Obligation and sacrifice are important part of Ker Puja. Dancing and rejoicing are made by the devotees after the Puja.

Ker Puja is also one of the festivals that is funded by the government of India. In addition to Agartala and Puran Haveli, the bid is organized in almost all tribal towns until the end of the year or at the end of the harvest.


Ker Puja is a festival predominantly celebrated in Tripura, a state in the Northeast part of India. This is held a few weeks after Kharchi Puja, and is the tribal festival held in order to worship the deity of Vastu Devata. It is believed that, in the past, the Puja took place to enhance the general well being of the people of Tripura.

Ker Puja is performed two weeks after the start of Kharchi Puja. In between the two Pujas, a total of 14 different deities have been worshipped. The last part of this process of Ker Puja, where Ker is honoured, the guardian deity of the Vastu Devata.

How is Ker Puja Celebrated?
During the Puja, entrances of the capital city of Tripura, Agartala is closed off to protect the area. The people here are restricted in many ways. They are not allowed to dance, wear shoes, or even light fires. Anyone not adhering to these rules is burdened with a fine and the Puja begins again.

During this time, the elderly, expectant mothers, and the sick are moved to villages nearby. This is done to prevent any mishaps that may occur. The ceremony beginds with a loud bang on the morning of Ker Puja, indicating the start of Ker Puja. People during this time are discouraged from screaming or crying.


  • Ker Puja is held after a fortnight of Kharchi Puja and is a traditional tribal festival. The deity of Vastu Devata is Ker meaning boundary or a particular area. People believe that the former rulers in the past used to perform this Puja for the general welfare and well being of the people of the state.
  • A large piece of bamboo is used to make Ker and this bamboo is then used by the priest to perform the Puja. Ker Puja is the strictest Puja done by the people because of the association of various beliefs and aspects.
  • The deities of Tripura are worshiped in this Puja. Every entrance or exit of the portion is entirely blocked to create a symbol for doing the Ker Puja. Expectant mothers and dying people are shifted to neighboring villages before starting the Puja.
  • The people in the surrounded place are not allowed to go beyond the boundary till Puja gets finished. If any person enters the boundary by mistake, he is not allowed to move back from the place.

কের পূজা সকাল 8 টা থেকে সকাল 10 টা পর্যন্ত শুরু হয়। পূজা শুরু হওয়ার পর মানুষ কথা বলার বা হাসতে পারবেন না। এই দুর্ভোগ, রোগ ও দারিদ্র্য থেকে জনগণের স্বার্থ রক্ষার জন্য এই পূজা করা হয়। অন্য কারণ হল যে কোনো বহিরাগত সহিংসতা থেকে মানুষকে রক্ষা করা। উৎসর্গ এবং উত্সর্গমূলক কের পূজা একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। পূজা শেষে ভক্তদের নাচ ও আনন্দ করা হয়।
